As for damage, I don't think you'd lose too much if you went Sylvan sorcerer. Rather, what you'd probably miss out on is a few defenses (mainly resists) and a slightly wider spell selection. Which isn't the end of the world. Just keep in mind that tier list differ depending on your difficulty and how much effort you want to put in the game.
